Remarks "Until recently it was assumed that Lord Palmerston, published by William Isbister in 1882 as part of his English Political Leaders series, was written much earlier - in 1866-67, shortly after Palmerston's death. Among Trollope's business papers at the Bodleian Library, however, is a memorandum in his own hand dated 24 August 1881 and noting the novelist's agreement 'to write a volume on Lord Palmerston - 200 pages - for L200 - for W. Isbister - to be delivered in March - 1882.' " (Halperin 1981, Introduction, p. 1).
