From the titlepage of the 1869 edition:
"From the 3rd edition of 1567, belonging to Henry Huth, Esq.
Collated with the 2nd edition of 1567 in the Bodleian Library,
Oxford, and with the reprint of the 4th edition of 1573."
According to Viles and Furnivall 1869:iv-vi, "the first edition was
published in 1566 or 1567,---probably the latter year ... The edition
called the second, also bearing date in 1567, is known to us in two states
... The second state of the second edition---which state I call the third
edition ... has 'Anno Domini 1567' only. ... this brings both the 2nd and
3rd editions (or 2A and 2B) to the year 1568, modern style. ... The chief
difference of the 4th edition is its extension of the story of the
'dyssembling Cranke,' ... and 'the Printar of this Booke' ... which
extension is given in the footnotes to pages 56 and 57 of our edition."
Page 50, containing only a picture and lines of verse, has been omitted.
The original Helsinki sample contained two references to pages 38, 41,
and 68; the second of these has been silently deleted in the present
