Research Interests

A. Primary areas:

  • The formal analysis of natural language syntax (Tree Adjoining Grammar and the formalization of transformational theory)
  • Historical syntax (studying parametric grammar change through the analysis of corpus data)
  • The syntax-semantics interface (implications for the architecture of grammar revealed by the analysis of copular sentences)

B. Other areas:

  • Computational linguistics (applied statistical Natural Language Processing for corpus construction)
  • Psycholinguistics (syntactic processing)
  • Sociolinguistics (the quantitative analysis of usage data)
