Event

Graduate students and early-career researchers in computer science, neuroscience, psychology, and related fields who have an interest in language and linguistics are invited to attend the 47th annual Penn Linguistics Conference. Hosted by the Graduate Linguistics Society of the Penn Linguistics Department, this conference provides an exceptional opportunity to present original research, connect with peers, and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in linguistics.

The conference will be held in person for the first time since 2019 on March 18th and 19th, 2023. This year's conference program includes four talk sessions covering a wide range of topics in linguistics such as syntax, semantics, phonology, historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, and language processing. Additionally, there will be a poster session and opportunities to connect with other researchers during lunch and an evening dinner reception.

We are excited to announce that this year's conference will feature keynote talks by two renowned linguists:  Professor Keith Johnson and Professor Heidi Harley. Professor Johnson, a leading scholar in the fields of phonetics and speech science, developed the exemplar-based model of speech perception by combining ideas from theoretical linguistics and psychology. Professor Harley is a renowned syntactician who has made significant contributions to our understanding of the relationship between syntax and morphology within the Distributed Morphology framework. Her recent work on the understudied languages of the American Southwest, in addition to the empirical and theoretical contributions to linguistics, has been seminal in the documentation and preservation of these languages.

We welcome you to join us for two days of engaging presentations, discussions, and opportunities to connect with fellow linguistics researchers from around the world.
