It will be held in room 733 Williams Hall, from 1:45 to 2:45 this coming Tuesday (the 16th). Hope to see you there, Tom ======================= From: Thomas McFadden To: linglist@babel.ling.upenn.edu Subject: inhouse session hello all, i think it's time to schedule the first inhouse session of the year. for those who are new, the inhouse sessions are opportunities for members of the linguistics community to get together and present work in progress to each other. so if there's a paper you're working on that you'd like to run by some people for comments, or just want to practice, this is an opportunity. the format we did last year involved mini-sessions, where two or three people presented papers, as opposed to the previous big sessions, where we would spend an entire afternoon and papers from several people. at this point, having seen both formats in action, we may want to discuss which is better and how we should do things in the future. for now, though, i'd like to get together a smaller session relatively soon, specifically because i know that people are going to want to give practice talks for upcoming conferences, and if we can schedule them all together, each talk will get a better audience. i'm thinking here of NELS and NWAV. now, i know that NELS is the weekend of the 20th and 21st but i don't know when NWAV is, hopefully not much sooner than that. but anyway, anyone who is presenting a paper at either of these conferences and would like to give a practice talk, or anyone else who would like to give an in house session talk within the next couple of weeks should let me know. then we can work out a time that works for everyone who's presenting, and we'll invite all other interested parties to join us. you in house impresario Tom =========================
