We now turn to vowels.
Korean vowels are built around either a vertical or a horizontal line: in general, back vowels are horizontal and non-back (mid and front) vowels vertical.

First it starts with two simple vertical and horizontal lines, read as a high front and mid vowel respectively. Note that the high mid vowel is unrounded.

A short line is added to the right or left of the lines to make two central vowels and two rounded back vowels:

And yet another vertical line can be added to the two central vowels to make them fronted:

Korean also has glides, front and rounded, which are represented in rather unique ways.

Front glides are derived by adding another short line.
