Abstract information about assignment strategies is all very fine and well, but there's nothing quite like getting your hands dirty in an actual piece of music with a seemingly impossible number of bells. Accordingly, I present to you the following excerpt (reprinted with permission) from Jerusalem, a Vision of Peace by Eileen Laurence, copyright 1996 AGEHR. In this excerpt the tempo is 88 bpm. Assuming you have all six octaves, how would you assign this for 13 ringers? 12? 11? Needless to say, you cannot leave out any notes. By the way, the asterisk at m. 110 says "6 octave choirs double top 3 notes to the end." Please ignore the various pencil scribblings; they are my reminders to myself when I play the piece. (No fair using those markings as a starting point for your suggestions; besides, they'll probably mess you up.) When you have a solution, mail it to me and I'll post them here. Comments? Questions? Complaints? Mail me! kingsbur@unagi.cis.upenn.edu Last modified: Fri Jul 10 22:27:28 GMT |
