The Penn Working Group in Language, a cross-disciplinary organization which brings together members of the Penn community engaged in research on language, invites submission of abstracts for its Spring 2004 session. The goal of this session is to bridge Penn's diverse strands of research in language, to provide a cross-disciplinary forum for discussion, and to establish a resource network for graduate students. To foster these goals, we are encouraging a broad range of submissions from graduate students across the university engaged in research in language. Areas of research include, but are not limited to the following:

anthropology
computer science
literature
area studies
education literacy
mathematics
biology
foreign languages
neuroscience
communications
linguistics
psychology
sociology

The Working Group encourages submission of completed works, works-in-progress, and show-and-tell sessions. All presentations will be 20 minutes long, followed by 10 minutes for discussion.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

All submissions must include the following information and be submitted electronically to totoro2 AT dolphin.upenn.edu by midnight Friday, February 27th.

Title The title of the presentation.
Abstract Please submit a 250 word abstract (list of references is optional) detailing the focus of your presentation and the work's relevance to developments in your field.
Key Terms Please include a list of up to five key terms or expressions which describe the methodological and theoretical foundations of your presentation.
Type of Presentation Specify whether your presentation is a show-and-tell *, a work-in-progress, or a completed work.
*Unlike a work-in-progress or a completed work, a show-and-tell places a greater emphasis on practice than on research. As a result, show-and-tell presentations may include a high proportion of visual demonstration as opposed to theoretical argument.
Contact Information Include the name(s) of the presenter(s), school or department within Penn, and contact information for all presenters, including e-mail, phone numbers and home address. Please specify which of the presenters is to be the primary contact.
Deadline for the receipt of abstracts is Midnight, Friday, February 27, 2004.
Notification of selection decisions will be sent via email in March 2004.
