Virus Information
- Basics
of Word macro viruses Please read this if you use Word on the Macs
in 404!
- Alan's message with
information on how to use the disinfecting macro.
- Apage on Miscoroft's
support database with information on the Word virus.
- Email viruses. There are no viruses that can be spread simply
by reading one's email. Any message warning of such a virus is a hoax.
The most common such hoax is a message warning of a virus in a mail
message called "Good Times", but there are others. Don't be taken
in. For more information, see the
CIAC page on virus hoaxes, or this
page on the Good Times hoax.
There are "viruses" that spread when someone executes
a program sent as an email attachment. Some Windows mail programs can
be set to do this automatically, so do make sure your mailer isn't. Anyway
this is not an issue when you read your email on unix.
